Your RRIF assumptions
For an existing RRIF, select the age basis already elected when the account was established. This choice cannot simply be changed each year.
No minimum is required in the establishment year. If selected, we assume a January 1 transfer and a full year of growth.

How this calculator works
Each annual minimum equals the RRIF’s January 1 fair market value multiplied by the prescribed factor for the elected person’s age on January 1. At ages 70 and younger, the factor is 1 ÷ (90 − age). Ages 71–94 use the CRA table; ages 95 and older use 20%.
The spouse or common-law partner age election must have been made when the RRIF was established, before payments began. A younger spouse’s age can reduce the required minimum. Selecting a different age basis here models that election; it does not change your account’s legal election.
There is no required minimum in the year a RRIF is established. This tool uses the modern “All other RRIFs” factors, not special legacy schedules for pre-1993 qualifying or pre-March 1986 RRIFs, and excludes locked-in accounts and RRIF-held annuity contracts.
For projection purposes, minimum withdrawals occur at the start of each year, then the remaining balance earns the assumed return after fees. Only minimum withdrawals are taken; no contributions, transfers, additional withdrawals or tax deductions are modelled. The monthly amount is the annual minimum divided by 12, not a monthly payment simulation. Calculations retain unrounded amounts; displayed values are rounded to cents.
Withdrawals are generally taxable income. No withholding is generally required on the minimum, but that does not make it tax-free. Future returns and balances are estimates, not guarantees; prescribed factors are held constant under current rules. Educational planning only, not financial or tax advice.
